Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will be a full free agent for the first time since 2018 in the next offseason. The four-time regular season MVP and four-time Finals MVP winner will turn 41 next offseason, and some believe that James may retire from the NBA after the 2025-26 season.
However, an NBA executive revealed in an interview with Lakers Daily that he believes James will only choose to retire if the Lakers win the championship next season.
"I think LeBron will play one or two more seasons unless the Lakers win the championship next year. Bryce James will be eligible for the draft in 2026. There are some rumors that LeBron also wants to play with him. We will wait and see, but I really don't think LeBron will retire after the end of next season. He is still a very good player and will not leave easily. Unless his performance has a huge decline or the Lakers win the championship, I think LeBron will continue to compete in the 2026-27 season," the executive said.
