Lakers general manager Pelinka affirmed the team's rookie Thiero's athletic ability and future development prospects, and hoped that he could continue to work hard based on Anunobi as a template.

"Obviously, Anunobi is a very good player and has achieved a lot in the league. I don't want to put pressure on anyone to be another person, but this type is really what he should learn. He has a 6-foot-7 (2.01m) figure and amazing explosiveness, I think his shooting ability is constantly improving, and he is also an excellent all-dunker. On the defensive end, I think he's going to be a top defender because he has all the necessary conditions," Pelinka said.

"JJ Redick and I actually received him in his building a few weeks ago, took him to lunch and really got to know his character. It was a very important part of the assessment process, he was a very good young man who was eager to improve, learn and grow. We believe there is an excellent team of players development here. We are very excited about that," said Pelinka Jr.

Last season, Anunobi averaged 18 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 breaks and 0.9 blocks per game.
