Ferguson: Roma is a great club, with a goal to return to the Champions League & hopes to score more goals

This week, Rome officially announced that 20-year-old Irish center Evan Ferguson was loaned from Brighton, and Rome also has Ferguson's option to buyout. After joining, Ferguson accepted an interview with the official Rome TV station for the first time.

You have officially joined Rome. What is Rome’s goal in the new season?

Rome is a great club and we want to rank as high as possible. When I came here, I heard that our goal was to qualify for the Champions League. I think the expectation of the new season is to return to the Champions League.

Why did you choose to come to Rome?

Rome is one of the most important clubs in Europe, and it is difficult for you to refuse such clubs when they are interested in you. I think this is a great opportunity for me and it's an honor to be here and play in front of these fans who are looking forward to what I can do well.

What do you think of Rome coach Gasperini? He is very good at developing young players at this stage of my career, coach Gasperini can be a very important person to be able to accept his guidance, work together, and learn from him.

You are the first Irish player in the history of Rome Club

I hope I can do a good job, become a pioneer, and lead the trend, so that more other Irish players can also come to Rome to play football in the future.

What do you think about the new season of Serie A?

Serie A is not an easy league. Italian football attaches great importance to defense, and I think it's not easy for me. But I still hope to score a lot of goals, improve myself and get back to shape.

You will compete with Rome center Dovbik. The club has excellent players in every position, and Dovbik is one of them. I hope that in training we can be a good pair of forwards, and then we will see what happens and what formation the coach will choose to play.

I hope we can have a great season together and a great time together.
