Laporta talks about Figo watching Barcelona game on site: Just remember his goodness, life must continue

Barcelona Chairman Laporta was interviewed a few days ago and talked about Figo's visit to Barcelona at home.

In 2000, Figo joined Real Madrid from Barcelona with a world-record transfer fee of £37 million. This move caused Barcelona fans to label him a "traitor" and are still worried about it.

The Portuguese star was expected to win the Golden Balls as a Barcelona player, but in the end he won the honor while playing for his arch-rival Real Madrid. Although 25 years have passed since Figo's transfer, when he confirmed that he would watch Barcelona's Champions League match against Paris live, the angry memories of his betrayal of the team were awakened again. Figo was invited to attend the rostrum as the UEFA ambassador. This is also the first time Figo has set foot at Barcelona's home court since representing Inter Milan against Barcelona in 2009.

Asked before the game about Figo's return, Laporta defended her live viewing and called on fans to remember Figo's contributions to the club. Laporta said: "He is a member of UEFA, which is completely worthy of respect. He was a Barcelona player. We remember the moment of glory he brought to us. He made a choice, but life must continue. As a member of UEFA, he deserves courtesy."

The then Barcelona president Gaspart declared that he would completely ignore Figo on the rostrum. After Real Madrid president Florentino triggered the contract termination clause for Figo, Gaspart failed to stop the star from turning to the arch-enemy.

Gaspart said bluntly: "I have no right to prohibit anyone from entering the stadium. He is the UEFA ambassador, but I promise not to greet him or communicate with him. The rostrum is big enough that it can be completely undisturbed. I am not a person who forgives everything. As a Barcelona fan, I will never forget him. He is not a pleasant person."

"UEFA is responsible for this invitation. Barcelona club has surpassed these grievances for many years, but personally, I have no interest in meeting or talking with him, and I will completely ignore him."

Gaspart once called Figo "Barcelona's only enemy", but at the same time admitted that Florentino's signing of the Portuguese superstar was "a stroke of a god."

Figo's return did not cause any incidents. He witnessed Paris' 2-1 reversal of Barcelona's Champions League match. This is in sharp contrast to the reception he encountered during his time as a player. When he first returned to Camp Nou in October 2000, all the fans ruthlessly insulted and booed, and Figo responded with an ear-covering action to intensify the opposition. During the second return, the famous incident occurred when the pig's head was thrown into the field, and the game was interrupted for 20 minutes due to fans throwing debris.
