Because of dissatisfaction with coach Probilds' decision to change the captain, Lewandowski announced his withdrawal from the Polish national team and publicly contradicted the coach. The Polish Football Association issued a statement to respond, saying that the change of captain was Probilds' own decision and did not hold a meeting with the team committee.

Polish Football Association stated: "In response to recent media reports that the Polish national team committee proposed to change the captain position, the Polish Football Association firmly denied these news.
